SOCIALS

We run weekly socials - commonly known as Salvos Wednesdays - in which we all get together and socialise outside of the pool! Typically there is a theme each week, as shown by some of the amazing costumes in our photo gallery, and the night often ends in Club Salvation (the student sports teams' dedicated club night, organised by the University of York Student Union (YUSU)).

We also organise extra socials and day-trips throughout the year, such as laser-quest, bowling, rock-climbing and lots of meals, to really make sure that our different members across Competitive Swimming, Water Polo and Swim for Fitness have the opportunity to mix and get to know each other!

UYSWC really is one massive family, so we always try our best to make sure everyone can have a good time both in and out of the pool!

An exciting new addition to the UYSWC community is the introduction of social members, where non-UYSWC members can pay a small annual fee to attend our social events, provided  they are students at the University of York.

Each year, we also run a "tour" abroad during the Easter holidays, offering members a range of social activities and adventures, plus the opportunity to train in world-class facilities outside the UK!

    OUR CHARITies and volunteering work

    Target Ovarian Cancer

Target Ovarian Cancer work to improve early diagnosis, fund life-saving research and provide support to women with ovarian cancer.

We support this charity through a range of annual fundraisers, such as team calendars, swimathons and distance challenges, as well as raising awareness of ovarian cancer by sharing information provided by the charity across our social media pages!

    Movember

Movember support over 1,250 men's health projects globally, all with the common goal of reducing the number of men dying prematurely.

We support this charity through events such as karaoke and quizzes, and sponsored moustache-growing during November, while also raising awareness of men's physical and mental health on our social media pages, via information provided by Movember!

    Yorkshire Marathon

    Yorkshire Marathon

The Yorkshire Marathon is an annual race across York, often taking place during the Autumn term.

Our members often help run a hydration station at some point along the route, providing water bottles and energy sachets to all the amazing runners!
